Back in the saddle chomping at the bit to get back to work for some well deserved rest after a very busy vacation:-)
I didn’t get to savor a fresh seafood dinner in New Brunswick as I had hoped. Our itinerary was mostly filled-in before we even got to the east coast but we had great fun with Jenn’s relatives in spite of going lobsterless for the week. I didn’t get to see a moose for that matter, or even a deer, as I also had hoped. Just the plentiful road signs warning about them. However, despite the almost continuous rainfall I was not disappointed when it came to scenery. The trip around the Gaspe’ Penninsula in Quebec, especially a place called Perce’ Rock, was stunning. We must have seen fifty church steeples peering out from the center of quaint villages nestled into the mountainsides and along the seacoast on that drive alone. Another trip along the Restigouche River and the Bay of Chaleur on the New Brunswick side all the way to Bathurst was just as pretty. Jenn’s mother lives directly below SugarLoaf Mountain and on our last day we walked the winding path around that Appalachian landmark. We’re both still sporting the scars of Black Fly bites from that excursion!
Blue skies finally appeared - about 2 hours into our 18 hour drive home. We only had about 3 hours sleep the night before so needless to say we were a little punch drunk upon arrival in Brantford. We needed to get home that night because my eldest daughter, Sara, arrived at the Toronto airport from the Dominican the next morning. She and her boyfriend, Fernando, went to pick up my grandboys at my youngest daughter’s place in Belleville (you remember Teri?/we stopped in and visited her, Kyle and the kids on our way up), and they all came here for the remainder of the weekend. Although we were bone tired we had a lot of laughs swapping stories about our vacations. No sooner had we said our goodbyes late Sunday morning then Jenn and I were off to the Canterbury Folk Festival in the small town of Ingersol to see a friend of ours, a talented singer/songwriter, Evan Champagne, perform. He was the last act of the festival and he didn’t disappoint. In the event you’re interested, here’s Evan’s site.
I posted some pictures taken during the few sunny breaks below. Lack of sun and seafood aside, we had a great time and I hope you missed me. Even a little:-)
Have much catching up to do and hope to have some good stuff for you later in the week!
